From:-       Chris Leigh - Area Manager of Connaught

Project:-   Hardy Court, Yeovil for South Somerset Homes.

"Connaught Partnership Ltd was the main contractor for the above project. The client was South Somerset Homes and the frame erection package was let to Advanced Panel Systems (UK) Ltd of Callington Cornwall.  The project had to achieve the Code for Sustainable Homes level 4 and the frame product chosen was the Advanced Panel System generation 4 195 I beam which gives a U value of 0.15W/m2K. This system is their closed panel which gave us the benefit of their off site manufacturing capabilities which included a service zone, the internal wallboard and the windows all factory fitted. This enabled us to achieve a much faster build programme with less footfall on this very tight site. We were very pleased with the fast and efficient erection of the four properties and on testing for sound and air tightness they achieved an improvement above Building Regulations of 8db for sound and between 2.41 and 2.90m³/h/m² for air permeability. The scheme had to include new technologies to meet the code 4 requirement and the technical design department of Advanced Panel Systems met all that we asked of them. We are delighted to have developed a closer understanding of what the Code for Sustainable Homes requires at level 4 and look forward to partnering further with Advanced Panel Systems in reaching level 5 and carbon zero".

From:-  Darrell Lock - Senior Develpment Officer, South Somerset Homes

South Somerset Homes is committed to be at the leading edge of modern methods of construction and in late 2007, South Somerset Homes embarked on a Code 4 project in Crewkerne, Somerset endeavouring to build four eco-friendly homes.   The scheme required the use a vast array of new energy saving technologies to meet the Code, however at the heart we required a structure to be energy efficient whilst also being quick to erect.  The APS frame ticked all the right boxes for the project. We were impressed by the technical, thermal, acoustic and air tightness performance of the APS product and I am pleased to say that we were not let down by this on the project itself. The 0.15W/m2K frame chosen was installed with the minimum of fuss allowing the project to race along at great speed.  The project took many twists along the way, with design changes well into the build needed to incorporate the new technologies.  APS were able to cope with these changes with little fuss allowing completion in early April 2008. Working hand in hand with our contractors, upon testing we were pleased to note that the buildings received impressive sound tests of an improvement above Building Regulations of 8db and excellent air permeability tests results of between 2.41 and 2.90m³/h/m².   This meant the properties obtained additional points under the CfSH. We are delighted with the completion of the scheme providing four energy efficient dwellings for local people, allowing us as an organisation to learn, understand and monitor the effects of new technologies and products.
